The Law Collaborative, Los Angeles is a multidisciplinary family law firm devoted to conflict resolution and the practice of collaborative law. Going to court on a family law matter, whether it is divorce, child custody, alimony, paternity, or a modification of an existing order, is destructive to families already under stress. Our goal is to save clients time, money, and the emotional upheaval caused by litigation. Do we also go to court? Yes, when necessary. Many years of experience have taught us that problem-solving and effective negotiation produce better results than trial. With experienced professionals from the fields of law, mediation, psychology, and finance, we offer clients a full range of service and support.
Most people don’t realize that there are alternatives to litigation. When a California divorce lawyer files an action in a case today, the earliest date assigned for the court appearance may be eighteen months or more after the date of filing. Are you willing to wait eighteen months for your alimony order? Are you willing to wait that long for a judge to determine your child custody arrangement? Thanks to budget cuts, lay offs, and a number of other issues, the California court system is a disaster. We have the solution. Our tools are effective negotiation, collaborative law, mediation, arbitration, and case evaluation. Our approach is to seek common ground and find better solutions.
“If your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.”- Abraham Maslow.
The Law Collaborative was founded by Ronald Supancic in Los Angeles. His son Ty Supancic soon joined Ron as a member of the firm. Ron has served as a mediator, arbitrator, and attorney specializing in family law for over forty years; Ty worked in entertainment for 15 years before becoming an attorney. He brings 20 years of combined experience in transactional and entertainment law to his practice.
A multi-faceted law and dispute resolution firm.
In 1976, Harvard Law professor Frank Sander developed the concept of the multi-door courthouse; a place where people could opt for trial or for a variety of dispute resolution processes such as mediation and arbitration. Today, we are applying the multi-door principle to the delivery of client services.
Helping people reach agreement is our goal, yet we are not strangers to the courtroom. If a case is not appropriate for collaborative law or mediation, a court appearance may be necessary. In that event, our attorneys comprise one of the best litigation teams in Los Angeles. Our clients receive the information, guidance, coaching, and services they need – whether those services involve law, counseling, financial matters, or workplace advice.
The Law Collaborative is unusual in several respects:
• Multidisciplinary practice. We rent space to talented professionals with whom we work to solve clients’ problems. Our affiliates have their own separate practices, but join forces when clients need the services of more than one profession. We are one of the few firms in the U.S. to bring such a team under one roof: Professionals devoted to finding less expensive and more durable solutions to conflict.
• Collaborative Law. We look for every opportunity to resolve conflict without going to court. Collaborative Law is an important development in the practice of law, permitting clients and lawyers to use problem-solving strategies, rather than threats and ultimatums. Ronald Supancic is a member of the International Association of Collaborative Professionals and was the original founder of the Coalition for Collaborative Divorce.
• Dispute Resolution. We provide mediation and arbitration services, as well as a variety of other services in which we serve as impartial dispute resolutionists. We also provide training and consulting for dispute resolution. Our collaborative divorce lawyers are experienced mediators, and are able to provide parenting coordination, case evaluation, and guardian ad litem services.
